thanks to Dr. Adam Piaseczny of Healthy Pets Veterinary Hospital for this recipe for homemade dog food.

choose the ingredients your pet loves most to make it your own – we call ours “small club stew!”

our dogs love it so much that they don’t realize it is healthy.

small club stew: our grain-free version includes certified-humane beef and organ meat from prather ranch, and veggies like green beans, carrots and sweet potatoes!

A Homemade Diet Recipe for Dogs from Dr. Adam Piaseczny

- a basic recipe, needs to be adjusted to individual pet’s needs/lifestyle
- rotate proteins, vary or mix carbs
- try different fruits and veg – we use a lot of green beans, blueberries, apples, kale, carrots, yams, and peas

Ingredients
1 lb    lightly cooked ground meat (chicken/beef/turkey), 5-20% fat content
2-4oz    finely chopped organic liver (beef or chicken)
3 g    powdered calcium carbonate (like Animal Essentials Seaweed Calcium)
1-2    eggs, no shells
2-4 c    chopped fruit and lightly cooked and chopped vegetables
4 c    well-cooked whole grain (rice, barley, quinoa), potato, or yam
0-1    can of sardines in water/oil
1 Tbs    omega-3 supplement (fish or flax oil)
and per dog’s weight, a multi-vitamin supplement (Animal Essentials, K9 Plus, Healthy Powder, Transfer Factor)

Directions

1. cook grains, yams or potatoes thoroughly. well done grains are easier to digest. set aside to cool.
2. chop or food-process fruits and vegetables. cook vegetables as lightly as you can for your dog’s own digestive abilities. (we cook ‘em thoroughly for our old dogs who can’t break down the veggie cell walls)
3. lightly cook meat and organs until browned. allow to cool.
4. add calcium supplement and raw eggs
5. mix in vegetables and fruit
6. mix in the grains, potatoes, or yams
7. add supplements: omega-3 fish oil
8. add multi-vitamin and mineral powder according to instructions on the bottle -  we love to make Dr. Pitcairn’s Healthy Powder, or use Transfer Factor, K9 Plus, Missing Link, or Animal Essentials

keep covered and refrigerated
Rough feeding instructions:
